New Homes on the Grange
A leading developer is to build its first new homes in Carlisle with the regeneration of a former hotel site into an exciting range of one, two and three-bedroom apartments.
Prospect (GB) Ltd acquired the former Newfield Grange Hotel, nestled within a stunning position just two miles from the city centre. The home builder plans to transform the 0.8 acres of land into 28 stylish apartments including two enviable three-bedroom penthouses.
The new homes will be sensitively built in a traditional style to match the established and picturesque location, but with contemporary interiors and a fabulous specification to meet modern demands.
Chris Heath, managing director of Prospect (GB) Ltd, says: “We’re really excited about our first development in Carlisle. The place has the vibrancy of a prospering northern city while being surrounded by simply breathtaking natural beauty. That’s quite a combination and obviously makes for a wonderful place to live.
“More than ever, people from all sections of the community are opting to live in apartments, dispelling the myth which once associated apartment living solely to young city professionals. So, while Carlisle city centre already has its fair share of apartments we’ve looked just two miles down the road to offer something a little different - contemporary specification with countryside views but still very close to the buzz of the city.”
Indeed, research by the Halifax shows that the traditional image of British suburban living is changing to include the low maintenance and secure apartment lifestyle. Over the past ten years, the greatest house price inflation of any property type has been seen in apartments – with average prices more than trebling.
The greatest increase in share of total house sales has been from apartments. In 1996, apartments made up only 11% of all sales but by last year this had increased to 20%, overtaking detached properties to become the third most popular property type.
Like everywhere else in the UK, Carlisle will be experiencing an increase in single person households. This is down to the trend to marry later in life, an increase in divorce and the fact we live longer and want to downsize to enjoy a comfortable and exciting retirement.
First time buyers find that apartments are an affordable option without sacrificing location and style. Young professionals enjoy the freedom an apartment offers with less house work and more time for life. Meanwhile the more mature buyer can free-up capital and chase the sun abroad, knowing they have a secure and stylish home to come back to.
Work will begin on The Grange in August with the apartments set to officially go on sale in January 2008. The first completions are planned for summer 2008.
